What is R 13 gas
R 13 is a halocarbon gas .
Because it belongs to the chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) family, it has a high ozone depletion potential (ODP) and is being phased out globally under the Montreal Protocol.
- Physical State: A colorless gas at room temperature with a sweet odor.
- Boiling Point: very low at -81.4°c
- Environmental Impact: It has an ODP of 1.0 and a very high Global Warming Potential (GWP) of approximately 13,900.
- Safety: It is classified as non-flammable and non-toxic under normal conditions.
- Cascade Refrigeration Systems: Used in the "low stage" of systems to reach temperatures impossible with standard single-stage compressors.
- Specialized Cooling: Applied in the chemical industry, low-temperature research, and specialized industrial chillers
Fire Suppression: The code "R13" also refers to specific standards for automatic gaseous fire suppression systems (e.g., APSAD R13).
